Coming into Easter is a good time to plan a great fly fishing adventure.

Here’s a chance to have a fly fishing holiday in one of Australia’s Premier Fly Fishing Destinations.

Come with us and explore the remote western side of Cape York.

Saturday 29th May to Friday 4th June 2010

Cape York

Because of the predominantly easterly trade winds, the wind usually blows from the land making the waters on the western side of Cape York crystal clear.

A must when you want to see the fish before you make a cast and there are miles of flats consisting of golden sands…

Crystal Clear Water

This is one of my favourite fly fishing adventures, I come back here every year because the fly fishing in shallow water is fantastic.

Permit

The plan is the same every year – we leave Brisbane on the Friday and fly to Cairns and connect to Weipa. We usually go in the day before the trip starts so we can do last minute sorting of gear and have nice meal and a cold ale to wind down after working so hard to get here.

On the Saturday at around lunchtime we head straight to the mothership, Mantaray, and be steaming up to the remote Jackson River for our first stop and fish from this base for a couple of days.

Mantaray

We use 15’ dories to get around and have one guide per two anglers. With only six anglers on board we are spoilt with a very personalized fishing experience.

Over the week we’ll fish a number of very remote rivers and beaches, chasing a variety of fish.

From a number of different trevally, Queenfish, barramundi, threadfin, tarpon, longtail tuna just to name a few.
The beauty of the Cape is the number of species available to the fly rodder.

If this trip interests you and you’ve always wanted to do a flyfishing adventure like this, then today’s your lucky day.

With the recent heavy rains and flooding across the north of Queensland, the rivers systems are experiencing the biggest flush out they have had in many years.
All of the extra nutrients flowing into the Gulf could mean big spawnings of prawns and loads of baitfish… which in turn can lead to extra HOT fishing action!

We have only a couple of spots left on the trips in May 2009…

  • 23rd to 29th May 2009; and
    • 30th May to 5th June 2009
    • Hosted by experienced fly fishing guides Gavin Platz, Dave Bradley and Nat Bromhead.
